Joe Biden coming to Des Moines on Monday

Details to follow from the Obama campaign. It will be Biden’s first Iowa visit since the caucuses. Expect a very big crowd.

Here’s a good diary about a Biden town-hall meeting in Sarasota this week, with video. He still answers questions for an hour or more at his campaign stops.

Speaking of which, John McCain’s campaign has announced that vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin will not take questions from journalists before the election. No press conferences, no Sunday-morning talk shows. Will this force journalists to drop their questioning of Palin’s record in Alaska and familiarity with basic matters of domestic and foreign policy?

Palin won’t be in seclusion–she’ll be doing about 30 fundraisers in the next 60 days.

  • questions

Palin not taking questions is crazy. Yes, there is a big risk that they will ask her something she doesn’t know…but on the other hand, it will really annoy the media and the talk shows will speculate about it endlessly. Fundraisers might get money, but it won’t get votes. Anyone who goes to a GOP fundraiser was already going to vote for them anyway.

Has this ever happened before? That a VP candidate doesn’t take ANY questions from the media?

    • no, it is unprecedented

for the VP candidate not to agree to any interviews with journalists.

Apparently there is a tradition of VP candidates going on Larry King’s show right after being chosen, and McCain promised King that his running mate would do the same, but they are not honoring that promise.

I expect them to dig in and blame the mean liberal media for not sending her out there. But they should be embarrassed to have a candidate on the ticket they can’t trust enough to answer a few questions.

      • Clarification

To be clear, the link to Carney doesn’t say Palin will avoid reporters until the election. It’s a video of a wack McCain advisor justifying why she hasn’t taken an interview yet. Still a great video that tells us a lot about the candidate’s preparedness. They are obviously beefing her up with GOP talking points right now, on issues she’s never taken a position on. Of course we must remember, this election isn’t about issues.

    • *this* is the best option they could dream up?

What strikes me as hysterical is that this option had to be the best one from which to choose…which means she must really have issues with a more extemporaneous environment.

I wonder what that will mean for the VP debate?  I mean, I assume you can’t just call that off too..

Ya know, every time I think this election has done the craziest thing I’ve ever seen, more craziness dumps out of my TV/RADIO/Computer.
