Montana Governor Schweitzer to headline Harkin Steak Fry

It’s not yet clear whether the Iowa caucuses will remain first next time the Democratic Party picks a presidential nominee, but at least one prospective candidate will introduce himself to a big crowd of Iowa Democrats next Sunday.

Senator Tom Harkin’s campaign announced today that Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer will headline the 31st Annual Steak Fry on September 14 at the Indianola balloon field.

You’ll be hearing more about Schweitzer in the coming years–he’s the favorite future presidential candidate of many bloggers, including Markos of Daily Kos. Why not come out to see him in person?

Here’s a write-up of Schweitzer’s speech at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

Here’s the text of the speech he delivered at the DNC.

Here’s a link to a video of Schweitzer’s speech that day.

I put Harkin’s e-mail with details about the steak fry after the jump.

If you go to the event and manage to talk with Senator Harkin, please encourage him to give more of his huge war chest to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

UPDATE: Sunday evening around 7 pm, I got a robocall from Schweitzer introducing himself as the speaker at the steak fry and relaying when and where the event will be held and how people can get tickets. Citizens for Harkin paid for the robocall.

Dear FirstName,

You may already know that we’re just over one week away from the annual Harkin Steak Fry.  It’s the biggest political event of the fall, where Democrats from across Iowa and around the country get together in Indianola to catch up, to chow down, and to prepare for victory in the fall.

But I wanted you to be the first to know that we have a very special guest for this year’s steak fry.

Brian Schweitzer, the Montana rancher-turned-Governor, will be our special guest at the 31st Annual Harkin Steak Fry. Governor Schweitzer, who electrified the Democratic National Convention last week in Denver, won election in 2004 and has led the Democratic resurgence in the mountain west.

Governor Schweitzer will be making his first trip to Iowa since the 2008 Democratic National Convention and I am thrilled that he will be speaking at the Steak Fry.

You can come out and meet Governor Schweitzer when he visits Indianola next Sunday.

The 31st Annual Steak Fry will take place on Sunday, September 14 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Tickets can be purchased online for $30 for adults and $15 for students.  Tickets will also be available at the door for $35.   On Sunday prior to the Steak Fry there will be a reception from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm with Governor Schweitzer for Hosts and Sponsors held in Des Moines. I encourage you to consider supporting the 31st Steak Fry by being a Host or Sponsor for the event, to order tickets go to www.tomharkin.com or call (515) 277-9966.

Join Governor Brian Schweitzer at the 31st Annual Harkin Steak Fry.

The Harkin Steak Fry is known as one of Iowa’s premier political events and attracts Iowans from every corner of the state. Past keynote speakers include President Bill Clinton, Senator Barack Obama, Senator Joe Biden and Vice President Al Gore.

Come out to Indianola and join Governor Schweitzer and thousands of Democratic activists for an afternoon to remember by purchasing your tickets to the 2008 Harkin Steak Fry today.

Hope to see you there!

Your friend,

Tom

    Should be lots of Fun!

    cant wait!

  • Too bad I can't attend

I got a note about this today, and I thought, dang, good choice.  He will help the Dems tremendously in Iowa if Iowa is indeed still a swing state.
