I take exception to the idea that members of the “six pack” should be challenged in a primary. It seems to me that a more productive approach would be to target republicans. I have know Mr. Marek for thrity years and having run for an open seat against Ms. Griener in 1992 I am quite familar with what it takes for a democrat to win in Washington county. Mr. Marek posses the qualities to be elected in this county and it is doubtful that anyone running “to the left of him” would win. His record on supporting fundemental issues important to labor (extending unemployment, creating jobs through bonds, etc) are critical to the well being of Iowa. To gamble this seat when there are so many other opportunties is foolish.
