After watching U.S. Representatives Rod Blum (IA-01), David Young (IA-03), and Steve King (IA-04) vote time after time to repeal their coverage, Iowans understand that it has never been more important for lawmakers to stand up for our right to health care. And as one poll after another shows, health care will play a significant role in this year’s election.

Because of the urgency surrounding this issue, across Iowa and across the country, there is an aggressive mobilization effort underway in all 50 states by Health Care Voter in order to hold Republicans feet to the fire for their efforts to undermine and repeal the Affordable Care Act.

Since Republicans took over the U.S. House, Senate, and presidency, one of their top priorities has been to attack our access to health coverage. And every time they have attempted to do that, Iowans have stood up to them. Here are a few examples of Iowans speaking out for quality, affordable health care:

Chris Petersen, and his wife both have pre-existing conditions. They both depend on the protections provided by the Affordable Care Act that are being attacked by the Trump administration. And despite the efforts of Iowans, Representatives Rod Blum, David Young, and Steve King have done nothing to stop it. Petersen is an Iowa farmer and member of the Main Street Alliance of Iowa. ReShonda Young understands health care both from a personal perspective and as a small business owner. She owns Popcorn Heaven, and she knows that covering pre-existing conditions is critical for her and the people who work for her business. My role as an organizer and advocate is one I care deeply about, but it’s so much more than that. I have a pre-existing condition, so this fight is personal to me. My family can’t afford the extreme and dangerous votes that Rod Blum, David Young, and Steve King have cast in Congress. I’m sharing my story today because we all need to lift our voices in opposition.

We have seen that voters overwhelmingly support the Affordable Care Act, we’re fed up with the attacks under the Republican Party, and we are fighting back.
