  • The Democratic Nomination Line

    Hillary Clinton, 4-5
    Barack Obama, 3-1
    John Edwards, 7-2
    Al Gore, 7-2
    Tom Vilsack, 6-1
    Evan Bayh, 7-1
    John Kerry, 8-1
    Joe Biden, 10-1
    Wesley Clark, 20-1
    Bill Richardson, 20-1

  • The Republican Nomination Line

    Rudy Giuliani, 10-11
    John McCain, 6-5
    Newt Gingrich, 7-2
    Mitt Romney, 6-1
    Sam Brownback, 8-1
    George Pataki, 10-1
    Condoleeza Rice, 12-1
    Mike Hucklebee, 15-1
    George Allen, 15-1
    Colin Powell, 30-1
    Jeb Bush, 40-1

    • I would put money on Brownback and Huckabee

      at those odds.

I think one of the wingers is going to have a “change of heart” about Iraq and win the nomination on a strong social conservative/bring the troops home message. They won’t criticize Bush for starting the war–they will just say we’ve done all we can do, so let’s bring our boys home. And by the way, Romney, Giuliani and McCain are not true conservatives.

I think this message would work very well with GOP primary voters.

      • But what about the general election?

I think you have to win the general election, too, to collect on the bet. Maybe one of the second tier nuts can get the nomination, but there is no way they could win the general election. The American people will not support a true social conservative for president.

I think the Republicans are stuck with Romney, Giuliani and McCain – the Boston liberal Mormon, the New York liberal sinner, and the pathetic panderer and war monger. They do not have much of a chance in the general election, either. Anything less than 10-1 odds on a Republican is a bad bet.

        • I think the nomination odds are separate

Note that Gore is 3-1 to win the presidency on the first list but only 7-2 to win the Democratic nomination further down.

The wingnuts could never win the presidency, but I give one of them a very good chance to win the GOP nomination.

  • I would SO put money on Edwards now

And not just because I support him–I think his odds of becoming president are a lot better than 8-1.

    • Wish I had money to bet.

I agree that Edwards has a lot better chance than that, and I’m not particularly supporting him yet.

It’s sad that Kucinich is just barely above The Terminator and Bill Clinton neither of whom are legally able to run.
