I got a message from John Norris asking me to vote for Becky Greenwald. If anyone knows what it's going to take to beat Latham it's John Norris. With her background in Ag and roots in the district, I agree with John, she's our best hope.

Just got two...
Kevin Miskell just called with a recorded message for me. The caller ID showed 206-203-3010 and was made by International Telcom LTD, of Seattle, WA. When I returned the call, I was hit with a fax tone.
Becky Greenwald called earlier with a message that almost exactly matched Kurt Meyer’s talking points, but talked about her raising a family and making her career here. The number was listed as “Unknown.”
It did surprise me that I received both about 10 minutes from each other.

Robo-Calls
Just a point of reference, folks —
ALL of the robo-calls ‘made’ by ANY candidate appear on your telephone because a company has been paid to get them out to a particular set of voters, so of course they’re not made by a number you can link to the campaign.
Exactly the same as paying a printer to print up a mailer and send it out to an address list that’s been provided to them — all for a price. And the same is true for the companies that place the media ads — they make their money by getting a cut of the ‘ad buy’ dollars. That’s modern political campaigning.
I got a Kurt call from Sandy Opstvedt, a Becky call from Christie Vilsack, another Becky call from John Norris, and individual calls from Becky, Kurt and Kevin — a total of six robo-calls.

Good. I think she’ll do very well in my county. I made 100 calls for her yesterday and the majority who answered the phone said they were voting for her. People were very nice too.

Tough to tell...
What’s always frustrating when making political calls for a candidate is that it’s never clear whether people are just being “polite” and trying to get you off the phone, or whether they’re giving their actual opinion.
I’ve found that when I’ve made calls for campaigns in the past, the majority of people who actually said they were voting for a different candidate were the ones who wanted to be obnoxious and make snide comments. There were very few people who would politely say “No, I’ve chosen to vote for Candidate X instead.” This is why ID calls can be so wildly inaccurate.
While I wish your candidate the best of luck, I just wanted to point out that it’s going to be very tough to predict how the race will turn out in the absence of impartial, outside polling. This is why I think that the race between Boswell and Fallon is a bit of a toss-up right now.

I know. People don’t always tell the truth–and I suspect that some of the “undecided” really weren’t, they just didn’t want to tell me. Mostly tho, I found that people were friendlier than the last time I made political calls, so I was happy.

If John Norris had done his job in 2002....
You stated that “If anyone knows what it’s going to take to beat Latham it’s John Norris.” Actually if he had run a better campaign then we wouldnt have Lathum representing us — he ran a horrible campaign resting on the establishment to win it for him. Now that I think of it he reminds me of how Hillary runs things — thinks she deserves it handed to her. So my point is — why should I trust the word of someone who ran a crappy race (a crappy race that stuck us with this bum) as an expert of who is best to take Lathem out this time?

my recollection
is that he didn’t run a great campaign, but I wasn’t following that district closely.
In fairness to Norris, 2002 was a big year for Republicans across the country in Congressional races. It’s never easy to defeat an incumbent, especially one who sits on the appropriations committee like Latham.

When John ran there were more Republicans in the district… it has been creeping towards a dem majority and finally, thanks to the caucuses, we have one. John also just moved to the district to run, not like becky who spent her life there minus a few years after college

10 Point Loss!
The numbers have never been that far off – a pretty even district D, R and I. Latham won by 10 points in 2002! In politics anything over 5 is a big win — 10 points is a good old fashioned butt kicking. I worked my butt off that year and saw a man who really didnt want to work for it as hard as his volunteers did. Just my opinion from my own personal experience. (I wont even go into how he ran a horrible statewide for Kerry)
