Progressive group throwing "Appreciation Party" for Fallon

If you’re a Fallon supporter, you might want to come to this party on Wednesday evening:

Dear Friends,

I take a lot of heat in my political work. So, it’s wonderful that Progressive Coalition of Central Iowa (PCCI) is throwing an “appreciation party” for me and my campaign team. They’ve asked me to make one more plug, and we hope you can come. (NOTE: Later this week, I’ll send out the final Fallon for Congress update with a candid assessment of the June 3rd primary.)

APPRECIATION EXPRESSED

To . . . Ed Fallon for his progressive stand on issues, for running for the office of U.S. Congressman in Iowa’s Third District, for conducting a clean campaign based on issues, and for refusing donations from political action committees (PACs) and paid lobbyists.

To . . . campaign manager Lynn Heuss and all the Fallon for Congress staff and volunteers.

FREE-WILL DONATIONS ACCEPTED to help offset the campaign’s debt. Suggested donation is $50 (or more, if possible), but donations of any size are appreciated. PLEASE COME EVEN IF A DONATION IS NOT POSSIBLE AT THIS TIME.

Raccoon River Park is very kid-friendly, and it’s usually windy enough to keep the mosquitoes from being a problem.

  • A have a suggestion...

In all seriousness…why the heck is Ed NOT spending his time looking for full-time employment? Then he would have some money to pay off his debt instead of begging. Jeez.

    • asking for donations to help retire campaign debt

is a normal and accepted practice. The multimillionaire Hillary Clinton is doing the same thing.

I donated to help retire Al Gore’s 1988 presidential campaign debt.

      • You where a part of the 88 campaign?

        I did not know that.

Was there any animosity as there is now? I was three than, so all that I know, I have heard.

Patty Schroeder has always been one of my heros though. Very Underated I think, maybe she wouldn’t have done well if she stuck it out, but again, I was three… So I wouldnt know 🙂

        • I wasn't as active then

I graduated from high school in 1987, and I volunteered for Paul Simon a little that summer and in the fall. I came back to Iowa for the caucuses but wasn’t living here for the last several months of the campaign.

I like Pat Schroeder, but the media never treated her as a heavyweight candidate.

There certainly wasn’t as much animosity between Dick Gephardt, Paul Simon, Michael Dukakis, Jesse Jackson, Bruce Babbitt and the others in 1987-1988 compared to this year’s campaign. But there also wasn’t the 24-hour news cycle that hyped every day’s events into a major scandal.

Gore bypassed Iowa that year. I donated a little to retire his campaign debt after the campaign was over because a friend of the family from New York was involved in his campaign and asked us to help.

  • Money

If you have money to donate and want to make a difference.  Then donate to Becky Greenwald.  She could use the money to go after Latham.  Becky has a chance to beat Latham.  A slim chance but a growing chance.

If Mr Fallon needs help with his campaign debt then he should ask people that have stock in Halliburton.  They might be willing to help him out.  Mr Fallon supported and worked for Bush in 2000.  The republicans that have made money over this disaster that has happened since then might help him out.  I doubt it but they might.

Mr Fallon cast his lot with the republicans. Now he should pay the price for it.  Get a job and don’t take money that should go to candidates to elect progressives to Congress.

    • I knew you'd post something like that

I have donated to Becky Greenwald and Rob Hubler, as well as to many of our statehouse candidates. The money I donated to Fallon didn’t take anything away from them.

As I said to Demo Memo, it’s a normal and accepted practice to raise money to retire campaign debt. No one says other politicians of much greater wealth than Fallon (such as Al Gore and Hillary Clinton) should pay back their entire campaign debt out of their own pockets.

Someone needed to step up to challenge Boswell, because Boswell hasn’t been representing his Democratic constituents well. If anyone who didn’t support Nader in 2000 had stepped up to the plate, I would have given them my serious consideration. But Fallon was the only person willing to give progressive Democrats an option in this district.

  • Boswell

Boswell is basically a DINO.  I would love to see a challenger for him in the primary.  Someone like Jack Hatch or possibly Preston Daniels.

    • but you know that no one like that

would ever burn bridges by challenging Boswell in a primary.

You go to war with the candidates you have.
