Dodd's 1st Ad: "Half Measures Won't Stop This President"

Hey there Bleeding Heartland,

My name is Matt Browner-Hamlin and I’ve just joined the Dodd campaign’s internet team as a traveling blogger and netroots outreach guy. I’m going to be spending a lot of time in Iowa with Senator Dodd – including a trip late this week. I’m  looking forward to traveling around the Hawkeye State and getting to know the Democratic activists who are going to shape the outcome of the caucus.  I want to be sure that members of the Bleeding Heartland community know what’s going on with Senator Dodd’s campaign and that I am available to you if you have questions. If you’re able to attend any of Senator Dodd’s events this week, I’d love to meet you in person for a bite to eat or a coffee — just give me a shout [email].

Now, on to the important stuff.

Check out Senator Dodd’s first TV commercial of the 2008 election. The ad is up in Iowa, New Hampshire, and on national cable.

Here’s the transcript of the ad:

CHRIS DODD: Half measures won’t stop this president from continuing our involvement in Iraq’s civil war.

That’s why I’m fighting for the only responsible measure in Congress that would take away the President’s blank check and set a timetable to bring our troops home.

Unfortunately my colleagues running for President have not joined me.

I’m Chris Dodd.  I’m running for President.  I approved this message because we can’t simply wait for a new President.  We should have the conviction to stand up to this one.

  • welcome!

That’s a good ad; thanks for posting. I don’t watch much tv, so I might have missed this ad.

I totally agree that it is not enough to say let’s end this war in early 2009 with a new president. Thousands more people will die between now and then.

When I listen to Chris Dodd, I rarely hear anything I disagree with. My two big concerns about his candidacy, though, are 1) we don’t have a great track record running senators from the northeast, and 2) if he were elected, Democrats would immediately lose a Senate seat (as the GOP Connecticut governor would appoint a Republican) and, depending on how 2008 goes, perhaps we would even lose our Senate majority.

What is the campaign’s response to these concerns?

    • Thanks

Thanks for the welcome desmoinesdem. I'm glad to hear that you're liking what you hear from Senator Dodd.

I believe people will vote for the best candidate, regardless of what part of the country they're from. The American people are smart and they can figure out who a person is, completely separate from where they're from.

We believe the American people are thirsty for change. Chris Dodd is a candidate who best embodies bold leadership and is going to provide the American people with a real choice, different from what the Republican Party has offered over the last seven years. We believe the desire for change will reach to all levels of government, all over the country and are confident that Democrats will ride the wave of change into an even larger majority in the Senate.

Gov. Jodi Rell is a Republican and would likely appoint a Repbulican to replace Senator Dodd if he's elected.
