Advice For William Meyers

This is second to none, not meaning to “sock puppet” but I couldnt find my password. I want everyone to know I will be posting under Baldy08, from now on. So feel free to respond to me as such.

I worked with William Meyers in the primaries. He is a great guy and a great candidate. We had a wonderful grassroots effort and ending up getting more votes per dollar spent than any candidate. The movement we started was palpible across party and the district. We turned out Independants, Regan Democrats and many Republicans. Everything was going great, we ended up losing the primary, but we finished a lot better than a lot of people thought.

This all changed when all the sudden I heard William was running as an independant. No announcement rally, no celebration party, no brain trust, no thank you, not even an email. I found out from a blogger on this site.

After nearly 6 months of volunteering 20-35 hours a week making the William Meyers campaign the best grassroots and net roots of all the candidates, the decision to go Independant, as claimed in the post I mentioned before, was William's alone.

Starting out in the world of politics, supporting an outside candidate, and really feeling the movement come to a screeching halt because THE ONLY PERSON WHO BELIEVES THE MOVEMENT IS NOT BIGGER THAN ONE PERSON, IS THE ONE PERSON RUNNING, is a very sobering experience that can shake someone to there very core and turn them off of politics forever.

So here is my advice to William…

If you are going to run, actually run! Get out on the parade circuit, put up a website, meet with legislatures, attend county party meetings for both Dems and Republicans, Put out a press release, DO SOMETHING TO PROVE TO PEOPLE WHO SUPPORTED YOU IN THE PRIMARY YOU ACTUALLY CARE AND ARENT JUST WAITING FOR A JOB OFFER!!!

I think that his views on immigration and the smoking ban definitely resinate with voters. Voters he could have reached better as a member of the Iowa House or Iowa Senate. Ironically the office he is seeking, that of congressman, will not allow him to act on the smoking ban (at all) and illegal immigration as much as he would as a member of the State House.

  • I also feel he would have done better

to seek a seat in the Iowa House or Senate.

It makes no sense to run for Congress as an independent. That just throws away his and other volunteers’ hard work.
