New Year's open thread

Hope everyone had an enjoyable and safe New Year’s Eve.

Share any thoughts, hopes or resolutions for the new year in this thread.

My boring resolutions are to exercise more, lose 10-15 pounds and make soup once a week (at least through the winter months).

If you want to quit smoking this year, try the Quitline Iowa website:

http://www.quitlineiowa.org/

There’s a toll-free number (1-800-QUIT NOW, 1-800-784-8669), and if you call during the month of January you can get four weeks of free nicotine patches or gum.

  • Hello, desmoinesdem!

We visited earlier at Daily Kos.

I enjoyed reading your diary review of the political year in Iowa.

This is my first visit to Bleeding Heartland.  It’s a nice site, similar to DKos.  I’ll look around for a while, though I’ve probably spent too much time on blog sites for one day!

My brothers, John and Art, promote independent journalism in Storm Lake as they, along with Mary and Dolores, and a great staff, publish The Storm Lake Times.  I’m a subscriber!

Another brother, Jim, also publishes a fine twice-monthly journal, The Progressive Populist, www.populist.com

I’m a subscriber on that count, too!

It’s good seeing print and electronic forums for independent and progressive ideals and political action.

    Have a peaceful 2009!

    Bill in Dubuque

My resolution is to lose 40 pounds but I don’t want to quit smoking – I like it too much.
