Why I strongly endorse Melissa Vine

State Representative Elizabeth Wilson is a Democrat representing Iowa House district 73, covering most of Marion in Linn County.

To move our state forward, Iowa needs a leader in Washington who shares our values.

As a single mom of four boys, Melissa understands the economic struggles many Iowans face. We need a leader who understands personally what it’s like to face and overcome adversity. Take it from me: Melissa does.

Currently, Iowa Republicans hold all four Congressional seats and both chambers of the state legislature. We need a fighter like Melissa in Washington to have any chance of delivering for Iowa families.

Every Iowan feels the reality of complete Republican control. Whether it’s the rollback of reproductive rights and access to abortion, the expiring child tax credit leaving many families high and dry, or Governor Kim Reynolds refusing an estimated $29 million in federal food assistance for low-income kids – it’s not kind.

I know Melissa’s character. I know she will show up with the empathy to understand your problems, the responsibility to affect change, and the determination to make that change a reality.

I am exhausted by Iowa Democrats’ recent losses at the ballot box. We need a candidate like Melissa who can bring a new level of excitement to our voter base.

I feel it every day at the state capitol: Republicans are out to gut Iowa’s working families – families like Melissa’s, and yours.

I am proud to endorse Melissa Vine for Iowa’s third Congressional district, because she understands that access to safe and legal health care for women is adjacent to things like domestic violence, sexual assault, the gender pay gap, and a woman’s ability to return to work when there is such a shortage of child care options.
