It’s official.  Barack Obama has way more friends than we do.

A new Web site, TechPresident.com, is keeping track of how many friends each presidential campaign has on MySpace.

Here’s the breakdown as of today:

And look!  The Republicans are trying too!

For the record, everyone should know that Borat of Kazakhstan has 421,238 MySpace friends.

Tila Tequila, the original MySpace “artist” and spammer has 1,670,131 MySpace friends.

Barack Obama has done a great job on Facebook too.  The One Million Strong for Barack group is up to 268,205 members.  How many of those are from an early primary state?  In fact, how many of those folks are not from Illinois?  Your guess is as good as mine.  But kudos to Team Obama for reaching out to social networks.

  • Clark's Popular Too

I was researching this a few weeks ago, and the biggest surprise I had was from Wes Clark’s Securing America group on MySpace.  He has 43,975 members in it!  I didn’t think that many people even knew who he was.  If he ever gets in this race, he’s going to have a decent amount of support already from all these social networking sites.

However, for young people at least, the real indicator is Facebook groups.  With MySpace, you can friend whoever you want without actually supporting them.  On Facebook, tons of groups specifically supporting a certain candidate for 2008 show an interesting breakdown in support.

I compiled these numbers about 2 weeks ago – since then, Obama’s has grown even higher, but the rest have stayed relatively stable.  These are the approximate totals of the various groups that support a candidate:

    Candidate Members
    Obama  253,000
    Edwards* 4,990
    Clinton  4,700
    Clark*  2,250
    Vilsack* 752
    Kucinich 720
    Biden*  697
    Richardson 254
    Dodd  120

*Candidate has a sponsored PAC group

(again, this is a few weeks ago – didn’t really feel like counting them all again)
